About the event

Session Description

Most clinicians eventually encounter a case in which therapy seems to stall. The client continues attending, conversations continue, and interventions may be clinically appropriate—yet meaningful progress becomes difficult to identify.

When this happens, the answer is not always to simply try another technique.

This Practice Well Lunch & Learn focuses on clinical decision-making when treatment feels stuck. Participants will explore factors that may contribute to stalled progress, including unclear treatment targets, avoidance, ambivalence, mismatched interventions, changes in the client’s needs, therapeutic relationship factors, and the need to revisit the original case conceptualization.

The session emphasizes stepping back, reassessing what is happening, and making intentional clinical decisions about whether to reframe the problem, modify interventions, revise the treatment plan, address barriers directly, or consider another level or type of care.
